SUMMARY:

The Lago Grande region, located in the municipality of Santarém in the state of
Pará, is characterized by its natural wealth and the presence of rural communities
that rely on family farming as their primary means of subsistence. However, the
Amazon region of Pará faces ongoing exploitation of nature and the
implementation of large capitalist projects, which forces rural residents to reinvent
themselves and learn new techniques for alternative cultivation that allow them
to work the land while respecting nature in accordance with traditional knowledge.
In this context, Rural Education is based on problematizing the socio-economic,
cultural, and environmental context. By relating the community's lived knowledge
to theoretical knowledge, students apply practical skills on their rural properties,
promoting agricultural alternatives that preserve nature and improve the quality
of life for families. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Pedagogy of
Alternation to agricultural sustainability in the Amazon region of Pará, with an
emphasis on agroecology, specifically in the communities of Membeca, Vila
Amazonas, and Guajará. Students of the agroecology course at the Rural Family
House (CFR) develop experiences during the "community time" through the
pedagogical instrument known as the Young Professional Project (PPJ), such as
meliponiculture, Agroforestry Systems (SAFs), free-range poultry farming, and
rotational grazing management, among others. The work includes a literature
review and field research with a qualitative and quantitative approach, involving
photographic records of students' productive units and interviews with students,
technical base teachers, the CFR coordinator, and a representative of the
Regional Association of Rural Family Houses (Arcafar). Thus, the analysis of
these experiences tends to strengthen rural communities, identifying the
challenges faced in implementing agroecological agricultural practices that
diversify family farming production, generate income, and improve the well-being
of rural people. The study highlights opportunities for improvement in proposing
public policies directed towards Rural Education and sustainability in the Lago
Grande region.
