Quilombola Stories: nalysis of Oral Tradition Narratives from the Remnant Community of Quilombo Peafú - Monte Alegre/PA
Quilombo Peafú; Elder Storytellers; Oral Narrative
The main objective of this research is to collect and analyze a set of oral tradition narratives from the Quilombo Peafú’s Remnant Community, located in Monte Alegre/PA, in order to understand its sociocultural, aesthetic, poetic, political, religious, and discursive specificities. Additionally, I intend to comprehend how the notions of values, religiosity, culture, and quilombola identity are constructed, namely, social factors historically built and shared across generations in these narratives. Thus, based on Hampâté-Bá (2010), Rosário (1989), Candido (2006), Moura (2010), Bispo (2015), Funes (2022), França and Guimarães (2020), Carvalho and Pires (2010), Silva (2008), apart from collecting the material, this research aims to analyze how the external factor (history and culture of the quilombola territory) interferes with the organization and narrative structure. Additionally, the study also seeks to understand the aesthetic dimensions of these texts, as well as their dialogues with social history, the formation of the territory, and quilombola identity and resistance. Initially, the work is organized into three chapters: the first chapter will focus on the importance of the "Living Tradition" represented by the elder storytellers of the quilombo, with an emphasis on the social role of the narrators, the general characteristics of oral narrative, and the categories and typologies that critics have used to address quilombola storytelling. In this chapter, I also reflect, based on the fieldwork I am conducting, on the possibility of expanding or even reformulating the categories used to describe the narrative produced by the elders of the Peafú quilombo. The second chapter presents an overview of the profile of the storytellers interviewed during the fieldwork: who they are, what they do, their relationship with the territory, and also with the collected oral narratives. Finally, the third chapter is dedicated to the analysis of the transcribed oral narratives.
