SUMMARY:

This research, developed in the Postgraduate Program in Literature at the Federal University of Western Pará (PPGL-Ufopa), falls within the area of Linguistics and the subareas of Linguistics Textual and Cognitive Linguistics, exploring the construction of referents through operations metonymic and metaphorical references in Narrativas da Amazônia Pará. The theme is the construction of referents through metonymic and metaphorical referential operations in narratives from the Amazon of Pará, focusing on the cordel "O Chapéu do Boto" by Juraci Siqueira. The problem that guides this investigation is “How do metonymic and metaphorical operations in construction of referents in texts inserted in the legendary imagination of the Amazon help in understanding the identity of the region’s inhabitants?” The first hypotheses are: the operations composition of referents in texts about Boto are refractions of a context socio-communicative resistance; talk and write about Boto, which symbolizes the foreigner, warns about the danger of others; metaphorical and metonymic operations portray a function social persuasion about the dangers of the coming of the other. As justification, the investigation seeks deepen the reflection on the regional identity of Pará and fill the gap in knowledge about metonymic and metaphorical referential operations in Juraci’s work Siqueira. The study is also justified by the influences of other research and disciplines that highlight the importance of investigating specific linguistic and cultural processes of Amazon. The general objective of the research is: to investigate how metonymic and metaphors in the work "O Chapéu do Boto" by Juraci Siqueira reflect and shape identities cultural, ethnic, social and environmental aspects of the Pará Amazon. The specific objectives are: verify the manifestations of metonymic and metaphorical operations in the referential construction of characters and events in the narrative "O Chapéu do Boto"; elucidate the implications of these operations in the construction of regional identity, examining how they contribute to the construction of a narrative that portrays and gives new meaning to Amazonian cultural elements. How much methods and techniques, the research is qualitative and interpretative, using descriptive methods and bibliographical. Data collection involved Systematic Literature Review techniques and content analysis by Bardin (2011), focusing on the referential operations present in the text "O Chapéu do Boto". For the purposes of this qualification, only 3 (three) of 33 stanzas were analyzed in which metonymic relations were observed.
