SUMMARY:

The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the lack of knowledge about a virus that caused a global collapse declared by the WHO (March, 2020). This unprecedented global crisis forced structural changes in health systems in search of prevention and care for the population, generating questions regarding its causes. This new reality also had consequences for the training of health professionals, leading higher education institutions to approve early graduations in order to incorporate these professionals into the front line of the fight against Covid-19. The science that studies diseases and their factors related to human beings, the environment and their imbalances is Medical Ecology (ME), whose objectives aim to restore the balance between human beings and nature and treat pathologies caused by the breakdown of this balance. In this sense, this research analyzed the training of medical graduates with early graduation from the State University of Pará (UEPA), medical ecology and the possible impacts/damages in the face of the Covid-19 scenario. As specific objectives, we sought to: outline the profile of these UEPA medical graduates (2020-2022), based on their practical insertion in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic; analyze the unified curriculum of the UEPA medicine course and its contribution to a more humanized training; identify the perception of MS and its principles in the training of medical graduates on the UEPA campuses of Belém, Marabá and Santarém; and, reveal the possible impacts/damages in the training process of these graduates, as a result of early graduation, and in professional practice while facing the pandemic situation. Bibliographic, documentary and empirical research was carried out, with a sample of 49 participants based on a semi-structured interview with 04 coordinators and 08 teachers, and the online questionnaire applied to 314 graduates who had early graduation (2020, 2021 and 2022), obtaining 37 respondents. The research uses a qualitative-quantitative approach, adopting content analysis (BARDIN, 2011) and the triangulation method (DENZIN, 2005), with approval by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Western Pará. to the results, it was confirmed that the object of study was unprecedented, after a systematic review of the literature in the SciELO, Periodical Portal and CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations databases, given the absence of publication with the descriptors “graduate studies of medicine”, “Medical ecology” and “Covid-19”. Regarding the profile of the graduates studied, the age range was 24 to 45 years old, with 26 years old (35%) being the most evident; 62% of them announce that they are female; 41% were already studying medical residency and 19% Specialization. Regarding their role in combating Covid-19, the majority were general practitioners (81%), and worked in Pará (76%), of these 51% in its capital, Belém, followed by São Paulo (21%) and Paraná (3%), having as locations: hospitals (62%), UBS (19%) and Clinics (15%); 46% worked only in the public health service/SUS and 7% in the private system, and 47% in both systems. When asked whether the course favored humanized medical training, 92% said they were satisfied and/or completely satisfied, and the Modules that contributed most were Medical Humanities (49%), GIESC (33%) and Internship in Clinical Medicine (18% ). However, 78% of them say “Yes” to the occurrence of impacts during internships, with emphasis on the absence of the Mental Health and Public Health modules. A reality corroborated by coordinators and teachers who worked at the internship with graduates who had their graduation anticipated due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as it greatly reduced the field of practice and internship, which were already scarce, making it even worse. Regarding the losses caused by anticipation, there is a certain balance between the answers: No (51%) and Yes (49%), however, the objective proposed by Ordinance 374 of the Ministry of Education, approving the anticipation of graduation of these graduates, increased the number of health professionals to work immediately with the SUS and the Private sector.
