Teaching grammar in the perspective of New Grammar of Brazilian Portuguese by the author Ataliba Teixeira de Castilho
New Grammar of Brazilian Portuguese. Teaching. Portuguese language
This research, denominated “Teaching grammar in the perspective of New Grammar of Brazilian Portuguese by the author Ataliba Teixeira de Castilho”, is part of the subproject Analysis of Brazilian Grammars Written by Linguists, which has been developed since 2017 by the Group of Linguistic Studies of Western Pará ( Gelopa) at the Federal University of Western Pará (Ufopa), and aims to analyze Brazilian grammars written by linguistic-grammarians. As part of this subproject, this paper aims to analyze which conception of grammar and teaching of grammar emerges from the book A Nova Gramática do Português Brasileiro do Ataliba Teixeira de Castilho as well as identifying the auhors ideas related to the meaning of teaching grammar; the reason why you shoud teach grammar; and how grammar should be taught. In order to reach our goals, we read and took notes of several authors who have discussed this theme, wrote reviews, made reflections and analysed our object of study. As a result, we can say that, for Castilho, grammar is a linguistic system made up of crystallized structures, organized in three subsystems: phonology, morphology and syntax. The author proposes that teaching is reflecting on the language and its phenomena, which reveals the linguistic knowledge stored in the speaker's mind, promoting, through research, a contextualized teaching which is linked to the students' experience and reality. The teaching proposal presented by Castilho aims to contribute to the student-centered conception of teaching.
