University education. New student. Peripheral university. Personal epistemological perspective.
This work presents the result of a research “University education of students from peripheral HEIs: a study on the Óbidos da Ufopa campus”. It aimed to answer how the new graduate of higher education, belonging to the category of “new student” assisted by a peripheral higher education institution, manifests its relationship with knowledge, what are his objective and subjective dispositions to study and what investments performs to his own training. More specifically, it seeks to discover if the student's epistemological stance towards knowledge: open or closed. The research takes as research subject the student of Pedagogy of the campus of county of Óbidos of the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará – Ufopa, for presenting characteristics analogous to the concept of new student and for being enrolled in an extremely isolated peripheral campus. The work carries out a conceptual study, resuming and discussing essential concepts for understanding the problem as new student, peripheral university, objective and subjective dispositions and epistemological posture (BRITTO, et. al., 2008; CORRÊA, 2017; SANTANA, 2019). It works with the concept of training in Adorno (2005), approaching the concepts of training in Heller (2016) and Freire (2019). The data production as based on a survey made using a google forms formulary sent to 111 students, in order to understand the material conditions of students, study practices, training investments, motivations for higher education. In addition to this, a round of talk meeting was held with four scholarship holders of scientific initiation and extension, to deepen issues related to the epistemological stance and analysis of students regarding the data produced. The Integrated Sistema Integrado de Gestão de Atividades Acadêmicas – Sigaa (Academic Activity Management System) was consulted to reached new data to allow better understandig of the construction of the student's academic profile. The analysis of the data conducted to the perception that the student of the campus of Óbidos may be categorized as a “new student”; it also demonstrates that the Óbidos campus takes an tremendous peripheral position in the field of higher education and, specifically to university education, points to the student's stiffened behavior in the face of knowledge (closed epistemological stance) and low personal training investment due to the condition of poverty and little subjective disposition.
