ON GRAMMAR AND TEACHING IN THE WORKS OF MÁRIO PERINI (1986; 2003; 2016)

Much has been discussed about the teaching of grammar in the Portuguese language and, in parallel to these discussions, there are also criticisms related to the grammatical tradition and its teaching. Attentive to the challenge of teaching grammar, the Linguistic Studies Group of Western Pará – Gelopa/Ufopa develops the project Language, grammar, variation and teaching and, together with this, the subproject Analysis of grammars written by Brazilian linguists, in which this bibliographical analysis research, whose core is to answer four guiding questions: What is grammar?; What is teaching grammar?; Why teach grammar?; and How to teach grammar?. For this, it analyzes the conception of grammar and grammar teaching in the works of Mário Perini (1986; 2003; 2016). While the research, in development, strives to answer the proposed questions, it seeks to reflect on grammar and teaching and a) its place in the PCN and BNCC; b) what has been produced by Gelopa; c) brief description of Perini's works (1986; 2016); and d) it concludes by answering the guiding questions from the works of Mário Perini (1986, 2003, 2016), who proposes a reformulation in grammatical studies, proposing that grammar be studied as it is, in a descriptive way, the way we speak; and redefined in terms of scientific training.
