LAGO DO MAICA: Attention and Intentions - an analysis of the construction of the bulk port.

This production analyzes the implementation of large infrastructure projects in the Amazon from the case study of the alleged construction of the Brazilian Company of Ports of Santarém (Embraps) bulk port in the region of Lago do Maicá, in Santarém/Pa. Despite the developmental discourse that promotes benefits for the population, historically these megaprojects leave a trail of environmental destruction, economic dependence and cultural damage that can change the course of the destinies of people who inhabit territories affcted by these projects. To really contribute to improving the population’s qualityof life, it is necessary to think abou other infrastructures, thise essential to boost the life dynamics of the peoples of Maicá, which are ignored both by companies and governments. Thus, it is imperative to decolonize thought and knowledge, in order to enable the production of knowledge from na attentive eye to the concrete needs of everday community life, with a view to indicating the infrastructures of the peoples. It is a dissertation with a qualitative methodological approach that for data collection will use semi-structured interviews and application of questionnaires to community members and popular leaders in the Pérola do Maicá neighborhood, in addition to participant observation and participatory mapping. We believe that this research will contribute to the debate on the great infrastructures in the Amazon, what they for and to whom they benefit, as well as provide other perspectives for the construction of infrastrucutures necessary for the daily lives of the Amazonian peoples.
