SUMMARY:

Snakes are animals of ecological importance, but the relationship between them and humans is marked by a transition between aversion and affinity, motivated mainly by the risks of snakebites and beliefs that induce negative attitudes towards them. Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze and describe the perceptions and attitudes of the inhabitants of the rural Amazonian communities of “Colônia Agrícola Nacional do Pará” - CANP and Mata Grande, municipality of Monte Alegre, Pará, Brazil, about snakes and the occurrence of snakebite accidents. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, with a basic and qualitative approach. Interviews will be conducted with local people to collect data on their knowledge of snakes, including showing them pictures of different species so that they can identify them. The incidence of snakebites will be assessed by asking respondents questions on the subject, and by analyzing the medical records available at the Basic Health Unit serving the two communities and the health surveillance reporting forms. Based on this study, it is expected that it will contribute to the knowledge and conservation of snake diversity in the Amazon region and to the health of the population of the communities studied.
