Alzheimer's disease. Covid-19. Elderly. Factors. Health.
Currently, the number of elderly individuals is growing considerably and neurodegenerative diseases (NP) are now characterized as an important public health problem. In this context, Alzheimer's Disease (AD), as it is a degenerative neurological pathology with few concrete studies on its etiology, has favored a progressive and persistent decline of recent memory in the individual. Furthermore, it is essential to emphasize that its clinical-therapeutic particularities may express greater vulnerability in the face of the global health scenario, in which the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with intense dissemination, triggered the emergency scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the present study aims to identify the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on people diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in the municipality of Santarém-Pará. For that, a descriptive, prospective and analytical study of the ecological type will be carried out, with people diagnosed with AD in the municipality of Santarém - Pará, assisted by the Supera Educational Network, in the period of three months (November and December 2023). Data collection will be carried out in a specific form, containing the participant's identification (participant/caregiver number; age; relationship with the participant; telephone), socioeconomic variables (Gender; Color; Education; Marital Status; Profession/Occupation; Income; Housing conditions) and clinical variables (Performance of physical activity; Diagnosis of chronic disease; Diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease; Previous surgical procedure; Use of mobility aids; Physiotherapeutic follow-up; Confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19; Presence of symptoms of COVID-19, after direct contact with a confirmed case; Hospitalization associated with COVID-19; Intubation associated with COVID-19; Confirmed diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease; Use of medication for Alzheimer's Disease), as well as the application of Scales for assessment of cognitive and functional abilities. It is expected to identify the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on people diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in the municipality of Santarém-Pará, in order to contribute to a reflection on the need to develop new studies on the problem and serve as a source for future research, giving great relevance to all those involved: society, health professionals and the scientific community.
