SUMMARY:

Nature, more than a mere setting, can be understood as an active and integrated element of the therapeutic process. This study examines this possibility within group psychotherapy conducted in contact with nature, directed toward supporting suicide-bereaved individuals as a pathway to move through pain and survive loss. This is a descriptive study with an exploratory character, grounded in a multimethod approach. Its main objective is to analyze the contributions of nature-based group psychotherapy to the process of loss elaboration among suicide-bereaved survivors in Santarém, Pará, a city located in the Eastern Amazon. Specifically, the study seeks to identify how participants perceive and connect with nature; to investigate the pre- and post-intervention states of the grief process; and to assess participants’ perceptions of the effects of group experiences in natural environments. The research will be conducted with a convenience sample of 15 participants who have experienced suicide bereavement involving someone with whom they shared an emotional bond. The therapeutic protocol will consist of twelve weekly sessions held in natural settings in Santarém (PA), such as beaches, wooded areas, and the riverfront. The methodology includes semi-structured interviews, field notes, a therapeutic workbook, and the application of the Inclusion of Nature in the Self Scale (INS) and the Nature Connection Index (ICN), aiming to understand participants’ relationship with the natural environment. Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, and qualitative data through the Collective Subject Discourse method. It is expected that the intervention will foster grief elaboration through group psychotherapy in contact with nature. The study aims to provide groundwork for the development of innovative strategies in the field of postvention, contributing to clinical practices and public policies that are sensitive to the singularities of suicide-related suffering
