SUMMARY:

Human potentialities are universal positive and enriching characteristics, studied by Positive Psychology and represented by character strengths or personal strengths. Knowledge of character strengths functions as protective factors that can be taught through well-being theory. This theory is presented by the construct that operationalizes five elements, called the PERMA model, the acronym for Positive Emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. This research investigated the contributions of the microsystem of a project to support the development of adolescents' personal strengths. Based on the Bioecological Theory of Human Development (TBDH), which understands development as a result of interaction processes that occur between an active being in its own developmental process and the people, objects and symbols present in its immediate environment. The specific objectives were: to create a support microsystem, in which the five PERMA factors for well-being were worked on; identify the personal strengths of teenagers engaged in Projeto Caminhar; investigate the contributions of a support microsystem to the knowledge of personal strengths and development of PERMA factors in adolescents. 42 adolescents aged 12 to 15 years old, students from the public school system in the city of Santarém – PA, participated in the study. The methodological strategy adopted was ecological insertion and took place over a period of six months, held in 17 meetings. The following instruments were used for data collection: psychosocial questionnaire, self-administered Values in Action (VIA) questionnaire, list and dynamics of personal strengths fishing, questionnaire on participation in the walking project and field diary. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the DSC technique – Collective Subject Discourse. The results indicated that the support project created was configured as a microsystem that provided the opportunity for adolescents to experience the PERMA factors and learn about their personal strengths through the activities developed and established close relationships. It is expected that these results will be useful in helping to encourage new research involving positive interventions in adolescence and in the design of public policies aimed at adolescents, by showing that support projects contribute to self-knowledge and the development of well-being factors.
