AREA: Saúde Coletiva
SUMMARY:

Common Mental Disorder (CMD) is a term used to refer to psychological conditions that affect
the mental health of a large portion of the population. They are characterized by symptoms of
depression, anxiety, stress, among others. Such pathologies can affect the body's physiological
processes, as well as quality of life. Among undergraduate students in the health field, MCT can
negatively influence both academic performance and quality of life. In the present study, our
objective is to determine the prevalence of CMD among undergraduate students in the health field
(Physiotherapy and Nursing) in the public and private higher education network and to analyze
whether there is an association between CMD, academic performance, and possible risk factors.
The study will be observational, analytical, and cross-sectional, with a quantitative approach.
Students from public and private Higher Education Institutions in Santarém-PA, Brazil will
participate in the research. Socioeconomic, demographic, academic, anthropometric, and
cognitive aspects will be investigated, the data of which will be correlated to the results on CMD,
which will be obtained through the following data collection devices: Self Reporting
Questionnaire - SRQ 20, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale – EDAE 2, as well as by
determining pH values and salivary cortisol levels, measured using a spectrophotometer pH meter,
respectively. Cognitive performance will be assessed through the application of the Non-Verbal
General Intelligence Test (TIG-NV). We hope our results can serve as a warning about the need
to adopt mental health care measures for this target audience.
