RESUMO:

Microbial activity and biomass are important biological indicators because they are sensitive to
environmental changes caused by agricultural use, and can be used to provide important
information on the proper use and management of the soil. The present project, whose main
objective is to evaluate the activity of microbial biomass, due to seasonal climatic variation in
different areas of cultivation located in the municipality of Santarém, Belterra and Mojuí dos
Campos, in the western region of Pará. The methodology adopted consists of delimiting plots
of 50x50 m in the different areas of cultivation, where three soil samples will be collected in
two depths, 0-10 and 10-20 cm.After collection, identification and packaging, the samples are
forwarded to the soil Department of the Emilio Goeldi Museum, and to Embrapa, in BelémPA. Biological attributes such as organic and microbial carbon content, microbial nitrogen and
phosphorus, basal soil respiration and metabolic and microbial quotient, and chemical analysis
to verify soil fertility are evaluated in the samples collected. The data obtained will be subjected
to descriptive statistics, statistical tests, ANOVA (P < 0.05), and test of comparison of averages
using the statistical software Past. In addition, the different areas of cultivation, and the
multivariate analysis of principal components (PCA) of the data, will be compared to obtain a
visual representation of the main characteristics and distribution of the soil biological attributes
of Different areas of study. With the results obtained, it is expected to observe variations in the
microbial biomass resulting from climatic seasonality and between the different areas of crops
that have unique properties that influence the soil microbiota. The knowledge of this variation
provides the adoption of practices of efficient soil management, to avoid environmental
impacts, thus guaranteeing better productivity, soil conservation and improvement in soil
quality.
