RESUMO:

Accidents by venomous animals, although old, still represent a major public health problem in Brazil
and in the world, presenting high frequency in morbimortality of the affected population. Among these are scorpionism, caused by scorpion bites, which can lead to human poisoning, whose severity and evolution range from mild to moderate to severe cases, and may cause deaths or temporary sequelae. The objective of the present study was to analyze and describe the incidence of scorpionism in the Legal Amazon, from 2001 to 2016, correlating with its spatial distribution. The methodology consisted of a descriptive and analytical clinical-epidemiological survey of the scorpionic accidents reported in the SINAN - Notification Disease Information System. Demographic data and population estimates, prepared by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), required for calculation of incidence rates and mortality coefficients were collected on the electronic website of the Department of Informatics of the National Health System-DATASUS. The epidemiological variables (sex, age and race / color) and clinical variables (case evolution, case classification and time of bite / care) were analyzed by calculating incidence rates, lethality, mortality and relative risk, using a 95% confidence interval. The Kruskal-Wallis test, chi-square and Pearson's correlation will also be performed. Data tabulation, analysis and plotting were performed with Microsoft Excel 2013 software, EpiInfo 7.2 and BioEstat 5.0, and the map produced with QGIS® version 3.4.2. So far, the data on the Legal Amazon, in particular in the state of Pará, have been analyzed, with preliminary data from 2010 to 2016. During this period, Scorpionism represented the second largest cause of accidents by venomous animals in the state of Pará, in the period from 2010 to 2016, and 12,220 cases were reported, of which 24 evolved to death. The mean annual incidence and mortality rates for 100,000 inhabitants were 21.76 and 0.043, respectively, and an average annual lethality corresponding to 0.20%. Males and those aged 20 to 39 years were the most affected. As to the deaths, these were more frequent in the age group up to 19 years
of age. Regarding race / color, the black population was the most affected (80.49%). The majority of the casualties (64.70%) were attended within 3 hours and the months of March to August concentrated the majority of the cases. Regarding the distribution of accidents, the municipalities of Santarém and Uruará had the highest number of cases, but the highest average incidences in the period studied were observed in the municipalities of Brasil Novo and Trairão. Regarding the risk factors for death, children up to 19 years of age presented a relative risk (RR) of 5.26 (95% CI 2.32, 11.89), severe cases with RR of 5.69 (95% CI 2.07, 15.64), and (more than 3 hours) with a RR of 3.74 (95% CI, 1.21-11.57). The Analysis has shown a decrease in the incidence and mortality rates of scorpionism in Pará was observed over the years. It was concluded that, despite the high number of cases of scorpion poisoning, these had low
lethality and hospital intervention being performed in a timely manner, in order to avoid death and
possible sequelae. The population in the economically active age group is the most affected, but deaths are more frequent in children. In the next phase of this work data will be collected and analyzed at the level of Brazil, in order to be compared with the international bases.
