RESUMO:

Dendrochronology is a technique that allows tree age estimation and the
correlation of this information as its development pattern by measuring its growth
rings. Therefore, dendroclimatology allows the formation of these growth layers
to be correlated with local climatic characteristics throughout the tree's existence.
Researches on the dendrochronology of
Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl. indicate the
annuality of the formation of their growth rings, however, this characteristic may
vary according to the environment in which the brazilian nut trees are located, as
well their genetic patterns. In addition, there are no studies investigating the
influence that climatic changes have had on this species in the western region of
Pará. Therefore, the present project aims to perform a dendrochronological and
dendroclimatic study to confirm the annuality of the growth rings of individuals of
B. excelsa belonging to three diameter classes, originating from a native brazilian
nut trees located at Tapajós National Forest. For this, five trees will be selected
in each diametric class and three samples will be removed in a non-destructive
technique for analysis. The samples will be dried and polished in order to make
them suitable for macroscopic and microscopic analyzes (ring thickness, juvenile
wood and latewood) using a stereoscope microscope. The obtained data will be
correlated with climatic data of the region, which will be obtained in the
meteorological stations of Belterra, Santarém and other sources that can be
defined later. These correlations analyze will be processed in the software
COFECHA and R. Thus, it is expected that there is a positive correlation between
the growth pattern of the trees and climatological data of the region, which
confirms the annuality of its growth layers, thus enabling the determination of the
age of individuals. It is also expected that individuals with larger diameter have a
higher number of rings and are therefore older. In addition, it is expected to obtain
an analysis of the influence of the monthly total precipitation (mm) and the mean
air temperature (° C) on growth pattern of the wood of the
B. excelsa trees,
allowing a diagnosis of the influence of climate changes on the population of this
species in the region.
