Cassava has great importance in feeding the world population, being of fundamental value its recognition in the field, besides that the current processes of genetic improvement are beginning to act in the liberation of new varieties, impacting directly on the social, productive, ecological and genetic. Thus, the objective of this work is to characterize morphologically the cassava varieties in the region of Santarém, Pará. Two collections were built with the cassava varieties of the Santarém region and with the varieties selected for micropropagation by the cassava group of UFOPA. (02 ° 30 '53.5''S and 54 ° 52 '36.9''W) with irrigation and the collection of Boa Esperança (02 ° 44' 25,2 ''S and 54 ° 31 '32.6''W) without irrigation. Some varieties were planted at both sites to observe differences in phenotype expression. The materials were evaluated according to the morphological descriptors of the FAO at different ages of growth until harvest. Overall, 71 varieties were propagated in the two collections spaced 1 x 1m between rows and between plants, each row being occupied by a different variety, with 8 plants per row in the Eixo Forte collection and 10 plants per row in the Boa region Hope, making a total of 108 lines. The morphological descriptors indicated a characteristic pattern of each variety, however, showed different phenotypic manifestations in genotypes of the same denomination when submitted to different environments. The descriptors that contributed most to the differentiation of the varieties were, respectively,rib leaf color, leaf terminal branches color, color of the apical leaf, plant type, vein, stem cortex color, root length and petiole  color. Thus, it is necessary to refine methods that seek to aid the recognition of varieties in the field.
