RESUMO:

Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a plant of great importance in the food of tropical countries and in industry. In Brazil, especially in the northern region, it also exerts importance in culture, being present in mythology and in various dishes typical of the region. The objective of this work is to characterize, by molecular markers, varieties of M. esculenta, identifying changes in the use of varieties caused by root rot in the municipalities of Santarém, Belterra and Mojuí dos Campos, State of Pará. For this, varieties will be collected. different from cassava, in order to implement a database of collections and to identify and characterize through genetic markers AFLP the genetic variability of varieties. For DNA extraction leaves or roots will be used. Extraction will be done through the Wizard® Genomic DNA Purification kit (Promega), according to the manufacturer's protocol. The end of this project is expected to provide a cassava crop database that will help to identify the varieties of the region and, from molecular data, know the variability of the species and assist breeding programs.
