RESUMO:

There are no studies that investigate the influence of climate change on Bertholletia excelsa Humb. & Bonpl.in the western region of Pará. Research focused on the dendrochronology of this species points to the annuality of the formation of its growth rings, however, this resource may vary according to the environment in which the methods are located and their genetic load. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the formation of growth rings of Bertholletia excelsa to verify the influence of climatic variations on its growth. For that, they were selected to collect 14 trees of the species, from a native chestnut tree located at Km 85 of BR 163, from which three bottles (silhouettes) were removed non-destructively for analysis. Samples used for drying and polishing, in order to use chips for macroscopic analysis, counting and measuring growth rings. The series correlation and the quality control were performed in the COFECHA software until reaching the critical correlation at 99% level of confidence. The selected series were correlated with local temperature and precipitation data from the meteorological station of Belterra, PA with the support of R software packages. A variation of the sea surface temperature was superimposed on the master chronology given by COFECHA for verification of the possible influences of the El niño-Southern Oscilation on the development of the species. It was found that the Bertholletia excelsa wood presents distinct growth rings that allows its counting and measurement and quality control of the series provided a significant intercorrelation. The correlation with the local climatic variables indicated that the previous December month positively affects the growth of the species and the temperature negatively affected in the current July month. The master chronology shows, in general, the decreasing trends in the years after the baby's occurrence. Therefore, it is concluded that the growth in the diameter of the population of Bertholletia excelsa responds to climate changes, and can affect negatively by drought induced by El niño events.
