RESUMO:

Despite the infinity of commercialized species interest in this country, it is clear that, when it comes to wood from traditionally traded Amazonian species, there are few reports of studies that evaluate the natural resistance to fungus attack under controlled conditions and its relationship with the physical-chemical characteristics of the wood, in order to assess damages and avoid possible losses and damages to the timber industry. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the natural resistance of 10 Amazonian species attacked by decaying fungus in tests carried out under laboratory conditions. For this purpose, 1.5 meter long boards were collected from 10 species traditionally sold in the Santarém region, varying between different levels of density (light, medium and heavy). The boards will be transformed into 2.5 x 2.5 x 0.9 cm specimens, with six samples per treatment and fungus, plus the control, making up approximately 150 specimens. To carry out the biological tests, rotting fungus of two species will be used: white rot (Trametes versicolor) and brown rot (Gloeophyllum trabeum). The wood degradation scale, physical properties (and apparent density) and chemical properties (total extractives content, lignin, holocellulose and ash) will be evaluated before and after the degradation tests, in order to verify possible correlations of the variables with the resistance natural wood of the species. And based on that, it is expected that the species evaluated show high resistance to attacks by brown rot and white rot fungus, and it is expected to find a positive correlation of the physicochemical properties with the species resistance to fungus attack so that this research is a mechanism for assessing the quality of wood from different Amazonian species and possible limitations on the use of wood attacked by fungus.
