SUMMARY:

Fish farming has been pointed out and treated as an activity that can be very important for the economy of fish farmers across the country, but which can have an impact on the environment. Among the environmental impacts, the disposal of raw effluents in water bodies, sedimentation that causes obstruction of water flows, eutrophication and pollution by chemical residues used in creation stand out. The high levels of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) and the accumulation of organic matter in the sediments at the bottom of the tanks are some of the main causes of impacts caused by effluents from fish farming on aquatic ecosystems, the removal of nutrients from fish farming effluents it is a challenge due to the greater restrictions and criteria established by environmental agencies, but it has great value for the reuse of Phosphorus and Nitrogen. To carry out this work, effluents were collected in a fish farming tank in the region of Santarém - Pará. The nutrients removal technique used in the work was the precipitation of magnesium (Mg) and ammonium (NH4+) phosphate hexahydrate, called struvite (NH4MgPO46H2O), which occurred in the optimal condition with a molar ratio of N: Mg: P equal to 1: 1:2, typically surrounded by six water molecules, whose precipitation depends on physical-chemical conditions such as pH, ions concentration and temperature. Being struvite a solid crystal resulting from precipitation with molecules arranged in a repeating pattern, in three spatial dimensions. The characterization of the products obtained by the precipitation was carried out through: X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The tests were randomly performed according to DOE factorial design (Design of Experiments), aiming at process optimization. In all the tests carried out, under different conditions, it was possible to obtain struvite precipitation on a bench scale, with a high degree of crystallinity, a high percentage of phosphorus removal was achieved, above 99.57%.
