SUMMARY:

Contamination by American Cutaneous and Visceral Leishmaniasis is a public health problem, considered a neglected disease, especially in tropical countries where access to health services is difficult. The transmission of leishmania occurs due to the bite of female mosquitoes of several species of phlebotomies of Diptera origin, belonging to the Psychodidae family, subfamily Phebotominae, and the genera Lutzomya. In Brazil, it is better known as Leishmania Chagasi, with dogs serving as primary hosts and humans as secondary hosts. Visceral leishmaniasis, also known as kala-azar, carries a high potential for human mortality when not diagnosed and treated quickly and effectively. American tegumentary leishmaniasis presents a range of cutaneous symptoms, from mild to severe, including chronicity and permanent damage to individuals. According to studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease affects approximately two million individuals annually. The objective of this study is to characterize the occurrence profile of American tegumentary and visceral leishmaniasis based on cases reported in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) from 2016 to 2020 in the metropolitan region of Santarém-PA. The methodology used will be descriptive, retrospective, and documentary, employing a quantitative approach through secondary data on cases of American tegumentary leishmaniasis and visceral leishmaniasis. The results will help us understand the profile of patients diagnosed with American Tegumentary and Visceral Leishmaniasis in the municipalities of Belterra, Santarém, and Mojuí dos Campos. This information will facilitate health surveillance actions, identifying and alerting the population to potential risks, and contribute to more effective diagnosis and early treatment. Furthermore, it will support the continuous and accurate compulsory notification process for the disease.
