RESUMO:

Urban backyards can be instruments capable of reconciling the quality of life of the inhabitants of Óbidos and the environmental conservation. It can also promote the generation of income for families with the commercialization of surplus production, as well as promote sustainable urban development. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the social, economic and environmental contribution of urban backyards to the quality of life of residents of the city of Óbidos, state of Pará, Brazil. Urban backyards will be selected in the central region of Óbidos (PA). Then, through Google Earth and the ArcGis Program, the backyards will be observed in groups, the first group being backyards with more than 50% of their area covered by plants, and the second with backyards with soil cover less than 50%. Participants will be invited to participate in this study as people interviewed, three groups of social actors: residents; municipal managers and technicians; environmental educators. In order to identify the floristic composition of the urban backyards, a 100% floristic inventory will be carried out for the species of these production systems. From this, to evaluate the social, economic and environmental contribution of urban backyards to the quality of life of city dwellers, backyard managers will be invited to participate in semi-structured interviews. The interviews will also identify the profile of the managers of urban backyards and correlate with their motivations, quality of life, agronomic practices, effects on their purchases and behavior in relation to production.
