RESUMO:

The presence of susceptible species in a region with favorable environmental conditions for the occurrence of leptospirosis justifies the need for seroprevalence studies of the disease in the human and animal population, mainly because it is a zoonosis with a high mortality rate among humans. Considering the information about the increase in the number of living horses in urban areas of Manaus, the risk of exposure and contamination of humans and other susceptible animals becomes greater. Thus, the objective of this project is to assess the serological prevalence and risk factors for leptospirosis in horses and to develop a retrospective epidemiological study of notified cases of leptospirosis in humans in Amazonas State, Brazil. The serological diagnosis of leptospirosis will be carried out in a partnership with the Leptospirosis Diagnosis Laboratory of Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. Serum samples will be tested for anti-Leptospira antibodies by microscopic microagglutination assay, as recommended by the World Health Organization. An epidemiological questionnaire will be applied to the sampled properties in order to gather information about the identification of the typology of the properties and the verification of the absence or presence of some practices and conditions that act as possible risk factors for the investigated disease. Retrospective observational descriptive study, of the time series type will be developed, with data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System and made available by the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation, of the State Department of Health of Amazonas, regarding the notified cases of leptospirosis in the municipalities of the Amazonas State in the period from 2007 to 2017. The main impacts expected with the realization of the project will be obtained from the interaction among seroepidemiological data, assessment of risk factors and correlation with current data on leptospirosis in the population of the State of Amazonas.
