Public policies and family farming: the case of an agrarian reform settlement in Alenquer, Pará, Brazil in light of the Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable family farming has stood out over the years as an essential category for food security and dynamism of the world economy. In this sense, the development of this thesis has the general objective: Evaluate public policies in the field of family farming in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in an Agrarian Reform settlement in Alenquer, Pará, Brazil; and, as specific objectives: i) Carry out a systematic evaluation of the literature on public policies and sustainability for family farming; ii) Highlight the relevance of institutional markets for the production chains of family farming in the Lower Amazon; iii) Carry out a financial assessment in the productive chains of family agriculture in the Sustainable Development Project (PDS) – Paraíso; iv) Identify alternatives for evaluating public policies and verify efficiency in terms of sustainability in family farming production. Therefore, methodologically, a systematic literature review was carried out, whose information was systematized through Microsoft Excel and processed through the Iramuteq software; secondary data from government institutions, public documents and scientific literature were consulted to analyze the panorama of institutional markets in the Lower Amazon region; revenues, costs/expenses, profit/loss, payback, Net Present Value - NPV and the Internal Rate of Return - IRR, in Agroforestry Systems - SAFs were calculated in the time frame of five years, as well as, it is intended to evaluate public policies and sustainability in family farming production chains in the Sustainable Development Project (PDS) – Paraíso, Alenquer, Pará, Brazil.
