RESUMO:

Mercury (Hg) is a heavy metal that is present ubiquitously throughout the earth's crust and among all contaminating metals, is at the highest level of toxicity due to its characteristics of biomagnification and bioaccumulation at different trophic levels. Many studies have shown that the main target organs of the toxic action of Hg are: brain, lung, digestive tract and liver. Taking into account that other studies have already shown that the population of this region is environmentally exposed to this metal, the general objective of this work is to evaluate the relationship of the hepatic and renal profile with the mercurial exposure in individuals of the municipality of Santarém, Pará. the specific objectives are: To characterize the epidemiological profile of the individuals participating in the research; Relate epidemiological data to mercury exposure and Verify if there is association of mercury levels with the hepatic and renal profile of the individuals analyzed. This is a field research with an observational, descriptive and quantitative approach and will be carried out in several places in the municipality of Santarém, being divided into urban, plateau and rural areas. To obtain the data will be applied a questionnaire with socio-economic and epidemiological questions. Then, 10 mL of venous blood will be collected by venipuncture from each volunteer. This amount will be divided into two portions, 5 mL for the dosage of Hg and 5 mL for the biochemical dosage necessary to trace the hepatic and renal profiles. The dosage of Hg will be carried out in the laboratory of Bioprospecting and Molecular Biology of the Federal University of Western Pará-Ufopa and the enzymatic and biochemical dosages will be performed in the Laboratory of Clinical Analysis of the Esperança Foundation, through an inter-institutional agreement. The questionnaire data will be used to trace the epidemiological profile of the individuals through a descriptive analysis using frequency tables and / or charts. The inference analysis will be performed after verification of normality through the Shapiro-Wilk test. To verify the correlation of the numerical variables will be used the Correlation test. To evaluate the association between mercurial exposure and enzymatic and biochemical changes, a multivariate analysis will be performed with the Simple Linear Regression test. Statistical tests will be performed on the STATA 7.0 software, with a significance level of 5%. Tracing the hepatic and renal profiles according to Hg levels may suggest an alternative to detect early hepatic and renal lesions. It should be noted that these are highly sensitive exams in the functions in question and that can be incorporated into the routine of investigation, besides being low cost, when compared with screening exams at the level of CNS.
