RESUMO:

Of the infectious diseases with the most common neurological signs in dogs, canine distemper is undoubtedly the most routinely observed in small animal medical clinic, but due to nonspecific symptomatology, the veterinarian requires a detailed history and specific exams to complete the diagnosis. Canine distemper is caused by a Morbilivirus of the Paramixoviridae family, has high morbidity and mortality, in which in most cases only symptomatic support is established for the animal, since there is no specific treatment for the disease. Several studies report the antiviral, immunomodulatory, antiinflammatory and noni neuroprotective antioxidant (Morinda citrifolia) activities. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of methanolic extract treatment of noni fruits in dogs with neurological symptoms affected by distemper virus. Dogs will be divided into three groups: G1 (control group using standard treatment), G2 (treated with 500 mg extract) and G3 (treated with 1000 mg extract). The fruits were harvested from community orchards in Belterra, State of Pará. The preliminary chromatographic profile of the extract by thin layer chromatography (TLC) revealed the presence of condensed tannins, terpenes, flavonoids and coumarin compared with the colorings. of reference standards. The dogs came from private clinics and the Zoonosis Control Center of Santarém, but were treated at their own residence. Preliminary results showed that of the five animals in group G1, only one survived until the end of the proposed treatment, however, the patient had neurological sequelae, the owner changed the treatment at the end of the study due to no clinical improvement, the biochemical tests of the animal. demonstrated worsening liver function, based on the references of markers for Aspartate Amino Transferase (AST) and Alanine Amino Transferase (ALT).
