SUMMARY:

Several studies indicate the occurrence of emerging contaminants in effluent treatment systems. In this class of environmental contaminants, bisphenol-A, natural hormones 17β-Estradiol and Estrona stand out, in addition to the synthetic hormone present in birth control pills, 17α-Ethinylestradiol. These substances do not yet have regulated legislation, but have the potential to affect human and environmental health. The contamination of aquatic ecosystems by compounds with deregulatory activity is mainly due to the discharge of effluents, either due to the lack of collection or the inefficiency of the treatment method. Given the importance of sewage treatment systems in the route of insertion of endocrine disruptors in water bodies, the motivation of this research was based on the risks that these contaminations bring to the bodies of water, to the health of living beings and to the imbalance of the environment. This research will analyze the methodologies used in the removal of endocrine disrupting substances, more precisely Bisphenol-A, Estrona, 17β-Estradiol and 17α-Etinilestradiol. To evaluate the removal of emerging contaminants in effluent treatment systems, a literature review was performed in indexed journals, according to the databases. It is expected to verify the occurrence of endocrine-DES disruptors in wastewater  treatment plants and determine the degree of removal. It also aims to identify the methodologies most used in the removal in this environmental matrix.
