SUMMARY:

The expansion of agricultural frontiers in the country where there is a gradual increase in the consumption of pesticides, which are potentially harmful to the environment and the populations that live in these places. In this sense, this study aims to evaluate the environmental exposure to pesticides, at the time of their intensive use, in humans residing in communities on the agricultural frontier of PA-370, Santarém-PA, in the Eastern Amazon. This is an ecological analytical epidemiological study, which will be carried out through the application of a sociodemographic and chemical risk perception questionnaire, unstructured interview and evaluation of the dosage of erythrocyte cholinesterase enzyme activity (AChE), in the prospected communities Urumanduba , Henrique Mendes, Planalto Fé em Deus, Volta Grande, São Jorge, Boa Esperança and Tipizal. Through the data obtained, the profile of the residents will be described through education, main activity and perception of chemical risk, in addition to counting reports of clinical manifestations related to exposure to pesticides. As for the assessment of AChE, it is expected that the biomarker of exposure to organophosphate and carbamate insecticides will show results that corroborate the hypothesis that those populations are likely to be intoxicated by pesticides and that, based on the other observations, the importance of more research aimed at both public health and the environmental area, in communities that have extensive productions in their surroundings, as well as obtaining key information from these communities to support decision-making by the public authorities, and actions aimed at improving health and quality of life.
