SUMMARY:

Periphyton communities are essential to the balance and metabolism of aquatic environments, they are organisms of fundamental relevance, they are the base of the food chain, transfer energy to other trophic levels and are primary producers responsible for releasing oxygen to the environment. Taking into account the relevance of these communities to the natural ecosystem, it is important to apply studies on abiotic variables and how they can regulate the development of this community of organisms. The aim of this study is to determine the variation of periphytic communities in experimental fish farming stations in Western Pará, Central Amazon, Brazil, comparing ponds with and without hydroponics. Artificial substrates were inserted for four months in experimental tanks for colonization of the periphyton, after colonization for 30 days the substrates were scraped and fixed in Lugol, the algae counting is performed using the Utermohl method. Weekly analyzes of the physical-chemical parameters were carried out: dissolved oxygen, pH, electrical conductivity, temperature, transparency, ammonia and nitrite, the parameters were measured using a portable multiparameter device (SensoDirect 150) and Secchi disk, nitrogen compounds by the method of photometry. Each tank contains 1000 fry of Colossoma macropomum (Tambaqui), the tanks are located at the Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará, Campus de Oriximiná, with two treatment tanks (T1 and T2) with hydroponics of the species Acmella oleracea (Jambú) and two Control tanks. (C1 and C2) without hydroponics. The data of the physical-chemical parameters and of the analyzes of the periphytic material are organized and tabulated in the program Past 4.09 from which line graphs, Box plot graphs, PCA graphs-Main Component Analysis were prepared and the following indices will be determined ; Shannon's Abundance, Wealth and Diversity. The t test results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the Treatment and Control tanks for most of the physicochemical parameters studied, with the exception of the water transparency and nitrite parameters, which showed a statistically significant difference with p<0.05 between the Treatment tanks and Control. It is concluded that the species Acmella oleracea (Jambú) in hydroponics may have been responsible for assimilating the nitrogen compound nitrite and causing a reduction in its values in the treatment tanks, on the other hand, hydroponics seems not to have been able to reduce ammonia values and improve the other physical-chemical parameters of the water in this cultivation system.
