With such a diverse biome and the contact with indigenous traditions, the man of the Amazon has used the therapeutic potential of many plants and animals to treat various diseases, even if some of them still do not have their therapeutic properties scientifically proven. In this way, ethnobiology can be defined as the science that studies the knowledge of a certain people and their relationship with nature or even the relationship of humanity with the biosphere, serving as a mediator of knowledge between different cultural groups. In this sense, pharmacological investigations are important to investigate the presence of active principles and compounds that exert a certain therapeutic action, correlating traditional knowledge with scientific knowledge, thus directing the research to the possible emergence of a new drug. Thus, the general objective of this work was to present data documented by Santa-Anna Nery in the book O País das Amazonas on the use of medicinal plants. The study is based on plants with curative and therapeutic purposes reported by Santa-Anna Nery in her book O País das Amazonas. The Work reports the knowledge acquired by the author during a trip from Belém to Manaus by boat on the rivers of the Amazon. One of his most famous books, O País das Amazonas, written in 1884, was sponsored by the government of Manaus in order to promote the state of Amazonas abroad. In this book, the author portrays the entire Amazonian regionalism and mainly defends foreign immigration for the economic development of the region.
