BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Biologia Geral
SUMMARY:

Urban trees, as well as the integration of green spaces are strategies for mitigating the negative impacts of the urbanization process. Public squares are considered urban green areas and are places that are often frequented by the local population, whether for recreation, leisure or physical activity. Therefore, it is important that these environments are well planned, with trees, enhancing their benefits in improving the urban environmental quality and the quality of life of the people who frequent them. Carrying out inventories in these areas is a support tool for public authorities and can contribute to better management of these environments. In the Amazon region, there are still few studies involving urban green areas, especially in western Pará. Therefore, the aim of this study is to carry out a floristic survey of public squares in three municipalities in western Pará, as well as to suggest species of the surrounding flora with potential use in urban afforestation. Fertile samples of plants present in the squares of the studied municipalities will be collected, and interviews will also be carried out with the visitors of all the squares. The species will be selected for use in urban afforestation from collections carried out in two Conservation Units of Full Protection, which cover the municipalities studied. The identifications will be through dichotomous keys, specialized bibliography, consultation with specialists and physical and virtual herbarium. The sampled species will be classified according to their origin: native and exotic. It is expected to contribute to the floristic knowledge of urban green areas in the Amazon region and to promote the appreciation of the local flora through the use of native species in the afforestation of amazonian municipalities.
