SUMMARY:

Cassava is important in agriculture for use in human food and industry. Like every plant, there are several microorganisms that are associated, among them the endophytic fungi that can be beneficial to the hosts. Studies on these fungi associated with cassava are scarce, especially on the interaction of plants with other organisms, such as phytopathogens. Thus, the present work aims to evaluate whether root rot influences the diversity and frequency of the main endophytic fungi in cassava plants. Two collections will be carried out in the municipalities of Santarém-PA (Boa Esperança community) and in the municipality of Belterra in the rainy and dry periods. Roots, leaves and stems will be collected from three healthy plants and three diseased plants, which will be packaged and taken to the Laboratory of Interaction Genetics (LGI) at the Federal University of Western Pará, for isolation and morphological and molecular identification. In the morphological identification, the reproductive structures of fungi will be analyzed and specialized literature will be consulted and the molecular analysis will be performed by amplification of the ITS region and sent for sequencing by specialized companies. Richness, diversity, frequency and density of colonization will be obtained from the isolation. For the competitive interaction (in vitro) a randomized design with 3 replications will be carried out, using the paired culture technique. The data obtained will be analyzed using the Tukey test with significant probability values of 5%. It is expected to identify at the gender/species level the fungi associated with cassava, verifying in which organ, place and state of the plant will occur the greatest richness and diversity of endophytic fungi, as well as the possible interaction between these micro-organisms and phytopathogens of cassava roots. This research should contribute to future studies to obtain metabolites in biotechnological processes and finally it is expected to find endophytic fungi that may be potential agents in biological control, to contribute to the production of plants, aiming at a more sustainable agriculture and with less environmental impact. and social.
