SUMMARY:

With the aim of evaluating the morphogenetic characteristics and bromatological composition of the species Urochloa brizantha, cv. Marandu, and the cultivars of Megathyrsus maximum, cv Mombaça, cv Mijaqui, cv Zuri, cultivated in areas prepared with and without liming, an experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm of UFOPA. In the formation of the experimental area, the species of grasses U. brizantha, cv. Marandu, Megathyrsus maximum, cv. Mombasa, M. Maximum cv. Mijaqui, M. Maximum cv. Zuri, which were sown in beds, each measuring 4 x 4.0m, with a distance of 2m between beds. The design was in randomized blocks: with and without liming, and the treatments correspond to the 4 species: U. brizantha, cv. Marandu, Megathyrsus maximum, cv. Mombasa, M. Maximum cv. Mijaqui, M. Maximum cv. Zuri, and 4 repetitions, totaling 32 experimental units. The morphogenetic characteristics of the species, the leaves with a period of 07 days are being evaluated and the tillers every 15 days are measured using a millimeter ruler, in two tillers per plot, randomly marked and all new tillers are randomly marked after cutting of standardization. From these measurements, the following response variables will be calculated: leaf appearance rate (TApF, in cm/day), leaf elongation rate (TAlF, in cm/day), phyllochron (number of days required for the appearance of two leaves consecutive), number of live leaves per tiller (NFV), leaf life span (DVF, in days) and leaf senescence rate (TSeF, in cm/day). Soon after, the samples will be separated into their morphological components: blade, stem + sheath, and dead material. After being weighed, these components will be dehydrated in a forced ventilation oven at 55 °C until constant weight to estimate the total dry mass production. The chemical-bromatological composition of the samples will be determined according to the methodology described by AOAC (1990), for dry matter (DM), mineral matter (MM) and crude protein (CP). The organic matter (OM) will be calculated by the formula: %MO= 100 – %MM, described by Rodrigues (2010). The NDF and ADF analyzes will be carried out according to the methodology of Van Soest et al. (1991). Total digestible nutrients (TDN) and dry matter digestibility (DMS) were estimated according to Rodrigues (2010), using the equations: TND= 87.84 – (0.7 x %FDA) and DMS= 88.9 – (0.779 x %FDA).The data were submitted to analysis of variance through the PROC GLM (General Linear Models), where the means will be tested by the Tukey test, considering a probability of 5% (P<0.05) as the level of statistical significance.
