SUMMARY:

Wound healing is one of the most studied processes, and over time, humans have developed various techniques and substances to optimize tissue repair. Among these, topical therapy has gained prominence as a safe and effective treatment option that offers many benefits compared to more invasive methods. The use of propolis as a topical therapy has been frequently employed in both human and animal medicine, with good results, especially as an antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing agent. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of alcohol extract of stingless bee propolis in the healing of cutaneous lesions in Japanese quails. Twenty adult female Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) will be randomly assigned to five groups: A, B, C, D, and E. Propolis will be collected from the species Scaptotrigona nigrohirta at the Meliponiculture sector of the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA), and subsequently an alcohol extract will be prepared. A lesion will be induced in the pectoral region of the birds, and then the propolis extract (experimental) will be applied daily to the wound, at the same time of day, for 21 days. Microscopic tests will be conducted on birds from groups A, B, C, and D on days three, seven, fourteen, and twenty-one, respectively, after the incision of the wound. Specific macroscopic examinations of the lesions will be described based on the results observed in group E.
