SUMMARY:

Sepsis is defined as organic dysfunction with high mortality. The intestine plays an important role in the pathophysiology of sepsis and the composition of its microbiome is affected in septic patients. The mechanisms responsible are not completely elucidated, but it is known that the undisturbed intestinal microbiota is crucial in the development and maturation of the immune system. Thus, correction of dysbiosis may be a new therapeutic strategy for sepsis. Probiotics are widely studied as an alternative to diseases. Of the bacteria used as probiotics, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) stand out because they colonize the gastrointestinal tract and are generally considered favorable microorganisms due to their ability to stimulate the host's gastrointestinal and immune development. Thus, the project aims to analyze the dynamics of pathophysiological processes during the evolution of sepsis in tambaquis, Colossoma macropomum, after supplementation with strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from the intestinal microbiota of fish of this same species. To this end, strains of lactic acid bacteria from healthy tambaquis were previously selected with proven probiotic potential in vitro regarding their resistance to biological barriers and industrial processes, and their ability to produce antimicrobial and pathogenic-free substances to now be tested in vivo. The selected strains will be used in the supplementation of juvenile tambaquis at a concentration of 1x108 UFC of additive to analyze the colonization capacity in the intestine of these strains, their effects on the modulation of the immune system, on the microbiota, on clinical parameters and the survival of tambaquis supplemented during sepsis induced by Aeromonas hydrophila. Prospecting its technological potential is extremely important to expand the understanding of the pathogen-host interaction, which will enable the construction of knowledge that can support programs developing strategies aimed at controlling and prophylaxis of serious diseases, such as sepsis.
