PRE-CLINICAL IN VITRO SAFETY STUDY OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF Cyperus articulatus L.
Essential oil, Cyperus articulatus, active ingredient, pripioca, toxicity analysis.
Known as priprioca in the Amazon region, the species whose name Cyperus articulatos is native to the American continent. In Brazil, it is common on the coastal strips of northern states in humid or flooded places, with relevant economic importance. Its essential oil is part of the local tradition, commonly used in the manufacture of perfumes and cosmetics, incense, seasonings and as a flavoring in the food industry. However, it stands out for its active ingredient, phytotherapeutic properties that assist in therapeutic treatments with important anticonvulsant, antifungal, antiepileptic, antiplasmodial, antioxidant, analgesic, antimicrobial and sedative properties. Thus, the proposed study aims to carry out laboratory tests within the parameters recommended by ANVISA, which provides for the registration of medicines and notification of traditional herbal products, for the analysis of the toxicity of Cyperus articulatus Essential Oil (OECA), cultivated in Municipality of Santarém - Pará with the aim of providing safety for these biochemical compounds.
