RESUMO:

The play is fundamental for the human development, especially in the stage of childhood, since it allows the child to develop his psychic functioning and begin his constitution as subject. In addition, it is in the environments that the child lives and attends that their development occurs and this influences the ways of playing. Given this evidence, it becomes important to understand the play in the most varied contexts, among them the host institutions that can be considered as a development context. In this way, the present research aims to know how children in an institutional reception situation play. Specific objectives are: identify the spaces where the games play; describe games, partners and interactions; investigate from the perspective of the child the pertinence of the toy library. As authors that base the theoretical aspects of the research will be used Bronfenbrenner (1996, 1998 and 2011), Vygotsky (1998), Bomtempo (1999, 2014), Bichara (2001, 2009, 2011, 2016), Smith (2017) Kishimoto 2001; 2010) and Huizinga (1999). The survey will include children aged 6 to 12 residing in the host institution in Santarém. The instruments for data collection are: sociodemographic data sheet, semi-structured individual interview script and observation script. Sociodemographic data and observations will be analyzed through descriptive statistics, the data from the interviews will be analyzed using the technique of the Collective Subject Discourse (DSC) developed by Lefèvre and Lefèvre (1990). This research intends to contribute with new empirical inputs on playing for children within the institutional reception space in the Municipality of Santarém, as well as to provide support for the analysis and improvement, if necessary, of the processes, spaces and strategies that promote play in the context shelter institutions.
