RESUMO:

The study in question has aimed to understand the conception of body of the professional soccer players identifying points of convergence and divergence with the theoretical perspective of the body. This research had the participation of sixty-four professional players who composed the cast of three clubs of the municipality of Santarem (North of Brazil) who have disputed the 2019 professional football championship. For theoretical support, the dialogue with authors such as Merleau-Ponty (1994, 1999), Nobrega (2010); Morin (2002, 2012), Sergio (1994; 1999), Bento (2009; 2013), Damo (2005) and Couto (2012; 2014) among others who discuss the corporeity, body, sport and professional soccer was used. The methodology adopted involved a scientific bibliographic review on the theme body and corporeity in the educational area in university graduation and post-graduation in the North region, and a field research set up with a semi-structured interview and a deep subject interview. For the analysis, the Technique of Elaboration and Analysis of Unit of Meaning Elaboration and Analysis elaborated by Moreira, Simoes and Porto (2005) was used. The results of the study indicated that there is a plurality of meanings of body presented by the players, most of them resulting from causalities of the activities experienced in the professional life based on dualistic and Cartesian ideals, giving the body the connotation of work tool (body-machine) that needs daily care to be body-efficient. However, the participants' reports also indicate the understanding of body in the perspective of the body in the sense of expressing a pipeline of transformation, demonstrating overcoming the hegemonic speech that polarizes body and mind and does not admit the recognition of the human being in its integrality. In relation to the experience of living the body in professional soccer in the reality in Santarem, players complain about the need for better working conditions and a cozy look on their existence, because the human being within the four lines is the same outside them, possessor of an existential dynamic that drives to seek the best of itself should not be compared to machines.
