RESUMO:

This work is attached to the “Reading and Intervention in Children and Youth Literature at the School” - Lelit, a Study Group from the Federal University of Western Pará - Ufopa, and aims to investigate how the circulation of reading takes place, and if happens in a participatory way or not, among the citizens of an indigenous community. The present research is sequence of a work started in 2016 that aimed to investigate the challenges and possibilities of establishing a library in Nova Vista village. With the foundation and operation of the library, it became necessary to understand the possible effects and social changes produced through the new cultural influence introduced by this stablishment in the village. In order to foment the circulation and movement of the library material, researchers, teachers and some leaders prepared an intervention plan with the proposal of one year duration. The proposal consisted of the following reading activities: reading circles, public readings, literary exhibitions, literature videos display, lectures and workshops for teachers, exchanges between villages, among others. To understand all this relation between reading and people in the village, an action research based on Franco (2005; 2010; 2016) was used as an investigative method, which through the community intends to transform a certain school and social reality using cyclical spirals: planning; action; reflection, which enable to reformulate the actions whenever necessary, analyzing the object and the research process continuously. Theoretical basis are being used: Adorno (2005); Britto (2003, 2015a, 2015b); Candido (2011); Mészáros (2008); Saviani and Duarte (2010). The results pointed out in this research demonstrate that there is a significant circulation of books and reading in the village since the library adjustment; reading actions contribute to improve students' reading. However, teachers' adherence is still partial in terms of actions beyond those expected; community participation is also timid and indirect, in short, people in the community still do not take over the library in its entirety.
