RESUMO:

Language studies brings a new science in the 20th century: Linguistics. This science is not born with eyes focused on language teaching, immersed in the strong influence of Traditional Grammar. However, with the advances in the studies of this science, many linguists begin to realize the importance of updating the teaching of language, which, in turn, permeates the updating of the teaching of grammar, since it is responsible for structuring that one. It is noticed, therefore, there are two conceptions of grammar in question: a prescriptive one, which establishes norms on how to speak, widely used in the classroom for the teaching of the Portuguese language; and a descriptive one, which begins to be unveiled from the studies of language science. It is from the moment that linguists are uncomfortable with the way that grammar is conceived and taught in school that they start to produce grammars, not prescriptive, but descriptive. In an attempt to observe the differential and what contributions the grammars produced by Brazilian linguists can bring to teaching can bring to teaching, we propose the discussion of this research, which is part of the subproject “Analysis of grammars written by Brazilian linguists”, linked to the project “Language, grammar, variation and teaching”, developed since 2017 by the Western Pará Linguistics Study Group - Gelopa. This subproject has four guiding questions: what is grammar?; what is teaching grammar ?; why teach grammar ?; and how to teach grammar ?. As part of this subproject, this work aims to answer these questions, starting from the analysis of the concept of teaching grammar in the work “The Grammar of Portuguese revealed in texts”, by the Brazilian linguist Maria Helena de Moura Neves, published in 2018. Character bibliographic, this research seeks to answer these four questions, starting from four works by this author (“A Gramática Passada a Limpo: conceitos, análises e parâmetros”, 2012; “Que Gramática estudar na escola?”, 2014; “A Gramática (história, teoria, análise, ensino)”, 2002; “Texto e Gramática”, 2013), to compare if there is a convergence between what she proposes in her previous works and her second published grammar.
