SUMMARY:

The final stage of Basic Education, High School, is considered the moment in which the student can reflect on their identity, the relevance of the school, of all their experiences in this educational environment, especially those that establish a relationship with their formation as a human being, in addition to the contents of Physical Education. In addition, it should promote the development of a critical and autonomous attitude to its students in the face of life's struggles, fostering an emancipatory conduct to the exercise of citizenship. One of the important issues in this training scenario is to motivate reflections on the body since basic education. For this reason, this research aimed to understand the conception of the body of high school students at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pará - Campus Santarém, and its relationship with the approach to corporeality in Physical Education classes in the Amazonian educational context. To this end, the writing was based on a qualitative approach, based on the phenomenon of Corporeality, mediated by authors who evoke the theme. Regarding the production of data, a sociodemographic questionnaire was used with twenty-four closed questions and an interview with three generating questions answered by the students. To analyze the data obtained, the Technique of Elaboration and Analysis of Units of Meaning was used. Thus, fourteen students answered the sociodemographic questionnaire and eleven of them participated in the interview, all aged between 15 and 18 years. Indeed, it was found that the understanding of the body of the researched students varies between the conception of the body based on an active being, who relates to himself, with others and his surroundings producing culture, and the understanding focused on the Cartesian model in which the body-object emerged in the adolescents' discourse, characterized as an aesthetic and machinic spectacle in which perfection and the beauty imposed by appearance are admired. As for the conceptions attributed to the body in Physical Education classes, they were directed towards an idea of a tired body that degenerates through inactivity, with little reflection on intentional movement, subservient to repetitive motor patterns that aim only at performance and physical conditioning. Regarding the conceptions of the body and adolescence, it was identified that students perceive themselves in transformations, and for them this is good, envisioning a sensitive corporeality in the midst of changes in their life-world. In summary, it is considered that by unveiling the understanding of body/corporeality, from teenagers in high school, it is possible to contribute to the recognition of a human being in its entirety. Consequently, evoking the theme has been relevant, so far, due to the few studies about the body and the corporeality phenomenon in education, Physical Education and in spaces of human and academic formation in the Amazon region.
