SUMMARY:

The 21st century has been marked by constant conflicts between nations, natural disasters and major economic and social crises that make the world witness the biggest and most serious migratory crisis of humanity. Even though the world was facing the COVID 19 pandemic and having several borders closed, in January 2021 the number of migrants reached 281 million. The migratory phenomenon brought to the new world scenario discussions related to public policies for reception and integration for immigrants in the most diverse countries that host them, among them the educational policies that figure as one of the most important instruments for the social inclusion of migrants and refugees and influence the economic and social mobility of hosted individuals. This ongoing research considers the relationship between migration and education taking into account the migratory context that Brazil and Latin America are facing. Observing the migration of Venezuelans who seek border countries to escape the serious economic and social crisis their country is facing, we focus especially on the migration of indigenous Venezuelans who enter the country from the northern region as the theme of this research that seeks to analyze the processes of policy implementation educational institutions for the care of these Venezuelan refugee immigrants of the Warao ethnic group, giving attention to the process of insertion in the school system in the municipality of Santarém of this nomadic ethnic group. The research will comprise methodological strategies such as: (i) study of ethnographic orientation that aims to analyze the socio-cultural aspects of the researched group and its relationship with formal education in the daily life of a school in Santarém (ii) documental research that aims to analyze legal instruments national and international developed to support immigrants, especially indigenous immigrants in Brazil (iii) analysis of public educational policies for immigrants practiced in the municipality of Santarém-PA. Based on the research results, educational public policies for immigrants can point to new paths for social and economic insertion of social groups that respect and recognize their cultural practices, as is the case of the Warao who live in the municipality.
