RESUMO:

This research “Literary reading and the teaching of Portuguese in elementary school - 6th to 9th grade: opposite margins or crossing?” Arises mainly from a pedagogical need - literary education. And, to this end, it investigates if there is, in Portuguese Language classes, the dichotomous teaching: Literary Reading dissociated from the teaching of Portuguese Language. For the survey of the data, and subsequent comparisons, analyzes and interventions, the research was carried out in three following steps: the first one consisted of the application of questionnaires to eight (08) Portuguese Language teachers working in the Elementary School, in (05) State Public Network schools in Santarém, and two hundred and five students (205). The second stage consisted in verifying and enumerating the occurrence of literary texts in Portuguese Language textbooks, used by students and teachers of these schools, in order to verify if the textbook promotes literary education through its texts. The third stage consisted of observing, in the Portuguese Language Teaching Plan, prepared by the teachers, if concepts and methodologies were inserted for the teaching of Literature. Having done these actions, the results obtained were socialized with the teachers participating in the research, in a scheduled meeting and in which several questions were asked, including the absence of methodologies, collective planning and training courses for teaching literary reading, besides discussions focused on the elaboration of strategies to make present the teaching of Literature in the Portuguese Language classes. The foundations used were mainly Cândido (2004), Silva (1991,2004, 2009), Zilberman (2009), Geraldi (2012), besides articles and dissertations that dialogue with this theme. The results show that the teaching of Portuguese language.
