SUMMARY:

The research is based on the recognition of public children's education and privileges the debate on the teaching of literary reading. Results of national (SAEB/ANA, 2016) and international (PISA, 2018) exams attest to lack of access to readings of literary texts or that point to a lag in these readings in Brazilian Basic Education. In this sense, it is investigated which elements present in children's literature can be used to arouse the interest in children in the early grades of Elementary School for reading to contribute to their reading initiation and personal development. To reach conclusions, the main objective is to recognize in Children's Literature elements capable of awakening in students the literary experience as a pedagogical strategy beyond the classroom. To this end, we searched for authors who focus on these subjects with extensive knowledge of the facts, among them, Ariès (1986); Colomer (2003); Zilberman (2009); Cosson (2021). It is intended, through bibliographic research, to discuss the relations between the production of children's literature and the student's formative process, characterizing the non- pragmatic aspect that children's literature has as an element in the holistic formation of students as individuals. The debate is also called for discussion on the social role of children's literature (anti-racist and anti-prejudice literature) in Portuguese language classes and possibilities for interdisciplinary study. The theoretical investigation is linked to practical activities in a teaching project in a state school in the state of Amazonas. This intervention is entitled: Children's Literature – Readings beyond the classroom. Here, the proposal presents as the objective of introducing children's literature in the early grades of Elementary School. Its planning includes the link between school, family, and literary community (authors of local Children's Literature). However, positive points can be listed, because, as a researcher, it was possible to raise the knowledge about children's literature and deepen studies on Literary Theory. In addition, the school community, the students' parents, and local writers were enthusiastic about the intervention to help "short steps" in this initiation of the students' reading training.
