This dissertation proposal aims to analyze how the creation of the Arapixuna District affected the daily life of riverside communities and its repercussions on the local imaginary about the modern "desired" and the traditional "persistent". The creation of the Arapixuna district represents an opportunity for the development of the region, so in this work Arapixuna will be analyzed as a newly created district, conceived as a way for the community to develop and achieve a status of modernity. From the analysis of the documents that deal with the creation of the District, understand how the idea of modernity is presented in the context of creation of the District and from delimited theoretical foundation, observe how the residents of a locality of the Amazon deal with the changes that involve its realitY
