SUMMARY:

The municipality of Juruti recently stood out in the Lower Amazon Region as a potentiality in the field of culture by Festribal, as is commonly known as the Folkloric Festival of the Indigenous Tribes of Juruti, which has taken place since 1995. This celebration was recognized as a cultural heritage of the state of Pará, in 2008, and allowed the insertion of Juruti in the Tourism Map, in 2016, in addition to promoting itself as an event of appreciation of indigenous peoples and political positioning regarding the preservation of the Amazon. Currently, it has been gaining discursive strength in the economic field, as a tool capable of generating employment and income for the region, through tourism. Under a discursive approach by Michel Foucault, the objective of the research is to analyze the processes and discourses that project Festribal as a development policy in Juruti and how this reflects in the community and the local economy. For this analysis, it will be necessary to examine the processes that constituted the Festival's protagonism in the cultural scene of Juruti; identify the main speeches that characterize Festribal as an economic potential; and we relate the Juruti community's perception of Festribal's contribution to the local economy with the discursive projection that is made of the event as a vector of development in the municipality. Documentary research, interviews, oral histories, focus groups and direct observation will be used for data collection. The research is expected to expand knowledge about the complex relationship between culture and development in the Amazon, based on popular festivals.
