RESUMO:

In the Brazilian Amazon Region there have been investments in new port logistics projects in recent decades, which have consolidated important alternatives for the country's agribusiness. The installation and operation of several bulk carriers in the District of Miritituba, Itaituba region (PA), modified the social and environmental milieu. The central question of the research sought to answer the socio-environmental commitment of Miritituba port companies with the local community. And, the general objective was to analyze the performance of port companies in Miritituba, with respect to the practices of Corporate Social-Environmental Responsibility, directed to the community in which the ports are inserted and the method of study was based on a qualitative / quantitative approach. The research is considered field and documentary, in the first case, the target audience was 357 (three hundred fifty-seven) participants, representatives of the local population, and the documents came from the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability of Pará and Association of Port Terminals and Transhipment Stations of Cargoes of the Amazon Basin in Miritituba. For the data collection of the field, instruments (questionnaires with open and closed questions), containing 10 (ten) questions were used. And, for documentary analysis, content analysis was done, according to Bardin. The technique of data triangulation was used by different sources (SEMAS, AMPORT and local residents). The results of the research were: a) through reports provided by the port association, it was possible to identify the execution of several social and environmental projects and actions, corroborating with the residents' response, in which 42% of the participants reported having knowledge about projects developed by AMPORT; b) an influence of the enterprises in the increase of jobs and the improvement of the local economy; a population growth that aggravated the problems of basic sanitation and local infrastructure, causing pressure on the services already offered to the community, the precariousness of infrastructure, fragilities in public safety and health; c) many of the impacts perceived by local residents were predicted by studies of environmental impacts; however, not all impacts were remedied by projects developed by companies, social, environmental and economic changes; d) changes had a positive impact, mainly in the generation of employment and income, however, there were also negative impacts, especially the worsening of infrastructure problems, environmental degradation and increase in crime; e) According to AMPORT data, companies have been seeking to comply with the minimum agenda set by the government. It is necessary to emphasize that besides the port companies in Miritituba, the public power must also assume the role of improving the basic services to the population, providing actions in the form of lectures, mini-courses, projects, even interventions in the local infrastructure, that can help increasing the quality of life of the local population.
