RESUMO:

In Brazil, the implementation of basic sanitation still presents many difficulties, among which stand out the collection and treatment of effluents. In this context, it is essential to carry out further studies on domestic sewage treatment systems that are consistent with the reality of the municipalities that most need this treatment, that is, that have efficient technology and low cost of implementation and operation. The widely used sanitary sewage treatment techniques have been based on the use of anaerobic and aerobic systems operating individually, however, these technologies have advantages and disadvantages that need to be adjusted. The combination of these systems (anaerobic-aerobic) is a very viable alternative, as they can combine the advantages of both technologies and promote significant removals of organic material, suspended solids and nutrients. Thus, the present study aims to treat domestic sewage in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor - UASB, combined with sequential batch reactors with attached biomass. Proposing to remove organic matter, nutrients and suspended solids. In this perspective we seek to produce effluents with low concentrations of organic material and nutrients, as well as investigate the potential of biomass production in both systems, estimating the applied organic and nitrogen load mass balance. The experimental investigation consists in the monitoring of a combined system: Anaerobic / Anoxic Reactor followed by Aerated Reactor with Submerged and Immobilized Support Medium in recirculation regime. With the combined systems, significant removals of polluting organic material and eutrophication-stimulating nutrients are expected
