OCCURRENCES OF NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES IN THE CITY OF ITAITUBA - PARÁ, AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Neurodegenerative Diseases. Mercury. Exposure.Itaituba.
Degenerative neuropathies such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis have been gaining prominence in public health worldwide due to the increase in population life expectancy. In addition, neurodegenerative diseases are a serious health problem, and socioeconomic in nature, as all their causes of onset are not known, but it is known that the etiology of these diseases may be related to environmental factors, physicochemical, biological, genetic and epigenetic. The aim of this study is to investigate a possible correlation between the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases with mercury levels in groups of patients with and without those diseases in the municipality of Itaituba-Pará, focusing on the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases found in the municipality of Itaituba-PA.; as well as know the epidemiological profile of patients with neurodegenerative diseases and non-carriers; and quantify the mercury levels of plasma and hair biological samples in order to analyze whether there is a possible correlation between the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases with mercury levels. This study is relevant because mercury in its chemical form methyl mercury has the ability to pass the blood-brain barrier. Thus, the study is also considered important because it has a clinical approach such as the monitoring of mercury due to its long-term adverse effects on the human organism. This research is defined as an epidemiological study through an observational investigation, which is classified as analytical characterized as case-control. Thus, it will develop through the application of a semi-structured form and collection of biological samples from 50 patients with neurodegenerative diseases and 50 volunteers without neurodegenerative diseases who are 60 years of age or older, during the period from October 2019 to January 2020. After the tabulation, statistical tests will be performed on STATA 7.0 software, with a significance level of 5%. In the present study, it is expected that the epidemiological data obtained by this research will serve as theoretical support for the scientific community and the population of Itaituba, in order to analyze the related variables in the health-disease process due to the long-term effects of exposure to the drug. mercury in the human organism.
